Good chat. I think ritual is a disruptive pause and has therapeutic value since it by nature disrupts established neural pathways and even impacts destructive coping mechanisms. My concern is where ritual is within a fallen or broken system, and then the ritual is not pure, but system affirming, centralising. Is the ritual pure and free from contaminants. So the pause, the disruption, the stepping out of is profoundly helpful, but we do need to hold space for where ritual is therapeutic, grounding, life affirming and re aligning, but also context and systems need to be explored for toxicity since by the nature of ritual and practice, you are establishing new neural pathways.
